The Pleasure of Collecting is an exhibition of works from Amanda Stoner's personal collection.

Amanda's passion for collecting, which was inspired by working at the Cooper Gallery, has brought together a unique collection of pieces, including art, ceramics and jewellery on public display for the first time.

The Sadler Room is occasionally closed to the public for a private event. Please contact us before making a special visit to see the exhibition. coopergallery@barnsley.gov.uk 01226 775678.

A woman in a navy shirt stands beside a wall displaying various framed artworks and a small sculpture. Above the art, text on the wall reads, “Interesting and unknown...”.

"I hope that this exhibition will show a contrast to the work that hangs in the 'Barnsley's Radical Collector' exhibition and show how the same passion that Sir Michael Sadler felt for buying art is found in ordinary people like myself.

Up to the age of 23, I had been to art college and had created art, but never really thought of owning any. I started working at the Cooper Gallery in 1993 on what thought would be a temporary job. It didn't turn out that way. The gallery nurtured my love of art and introduced me to some of the most wonderful human beings that happened to be artists. l, like Sadler, felt the pull towards collecting their work."
