The Cooper Gallery, situated in Barnsley town centre, offers a space for art of all kinds.

Volunteering at the gallery is all about the visitor’s experience, as a volunteer you would be on hand to offer a friendly welcome, guide people and answer questions about current and permanent exhibitions.

Volunteering at the Cooper Gallery

The Cooper Gallery is an excellent opportunity for anyone who loves art, working with people or both. Customer service is useful but would also be developed so not a barrier if you haven’t done this before.

You will be supported by the friendly staff team and get to see a changing exhibition programme.

The Cooper Gallery also sells many local artists work in its gift shop, offering a great experience can help in turn support artists using our space to sell their work.

Anyone can volunteer with us but being so centrally based we are proud to offer regular opportunities to students from the nearby Barnsley College campus, both on gallery and in the hosting of regular student exhibitions giving real life gallery install experience.

‘It was great working at the gallery, as it gave me an interesting new experience and reflective Saturday afternoons.’
