Capturing The Seasons by Creative Minds
This project was developed by the Creative Minds Charity who worked in colaboration with the Barnsley Integrated Community Stroke Team and The Stroke Association.
"Having a stroke can be life changing and a traumatic event, but for eight stroke survivors and their partners in Barnsley, we were able to offer a specialist photography group designed to aid both mental and physical recovery Recent research has shown that being outside with others can have a positive effect on health and wellbeing"
Meeting four times over the course of a year, the group photographed the changing seasons and natural landscape of Locke Park in Barnsley. Kirsty Sidebottom, Creative Practitioner for Creative Minds gave instructions on how to use the cameras provided and demonstrated the different settings and composition techniques. Whilst developing a new skill, members of the group gained confidence in a social, supportive and creative environment. Long term, the work will be displayed on the Stroke Recovery Unit at Kendray Hospital.
The project reflected the aims of Creative Minds to integrate creativity and the arts into mainstream health and wellbeing practice. The group was also facilitated by Gill Richmond Burns, Life After Stroke Co-ordinator, Barnsley Integrated Stroke Team and was supported by Donna Stringer, Stroke Association.
