The Tasker Photography Trust opens new exhibition at the Cooper Gallery

The Tasker Photography Trust opens a brand-new exhibition at the Cooper Gallery on Saturday, 15 January 2022

Featuring work from their extensive database which includes over 6,000 digitised images of the borough, the display will be a celebration of Barnsley’s rich and fascinating past.

Pictures and photographs include old Barnsley buildings & occupants and highlights the development of Barnsley over the last 150 years. The exhibitions’ themes are around transport; pubs; Peel Square; markets; fashion and industry offering an insight into the ever-changing face of the town centre and resilient community. 

It comes at a perfect time as the town centre has recently undergone a stunning transformation, signalling an exciting new chapter for the borough.

The exhibition, which is on display until Saturday, 19 March, will evoke heart- warming memories of days gone by and showcase some key moments in the town’s history.

Cllr Tim Cheetham, Cabinet Spokesperson for Place (Regeneration and Culture) said: “Photographs and images such as this are precious as we enter a digital age, the people, places and memories that they capture are precious.  The displays really highlight the progression of the town and are particularly significant with the opening of The Glass Works, an impressive and important addition to the town.  We are sure visitors will enjoy reminiscing past events through the images, passing down happy memories from generation to generation.”
