Relaxed openings at Experience Barnsley and The Cooper Gallery

As part of Barnsley Museums’ review of accessibility, they will be trialling relaxed openings at their two town centre attractions; Experience Barnsley and The Cooper Gallery.

The relaxed openings, which are free, will take place on the first Tuesday and last Saturday throughout January, February and March 2020.

The days are designed for visitors who would prefer a quieter more calm experience at the museum and gallery. During the relaxed openings sound will be kept to a minimum to make the spaces a less overwhelming place to visit. Ear defenders will be available as well as sensory toys and torches. The teams at both the museum and gallery will be on hand to provide guidance during the visit and are happy to help in any way.

David Shepherd, Service Director, Regeneration & Culture said:

Accessibility is of huge importance to Barnsley Museum – the five fantastic, free attractions are available for everyone to experience and enjoy. By hosting relaxed opening times it will offer a calmer experience which will allow people to explore the spaces in new ways.

Dates for the relaxed openings are Tuesday 7 and Saturday 25 January; Tuesday 4 and Saturday 29 February and Tuesday 3 and Saturday 28 March for more information about the openings and for the Barnsley Museums access policy visit www.barnsley-museums.com
