Sadler Room, Cooper Gallery

Running time 48 minutes

Henry Moore's love of natural forms and his placing of sculpture in the landscape helped create a reputation that brought him international acclaim. In the second half of this documentary, friends, family members, critics and art contemporaries appraise Moore's work and share their personal experiences of the man and his life.

Lauren Bacall had started collecting Henry Moore pieces in the 1950s and contacted him when she was told that he welcomed visitors. They seemed as excited as each other at the prospect of meeting and became firm friends. Thereafter, she always visited Hoglands, Moore's Hertfordshire home, every time she came to London.

Originally broadcast 19 July 1998.
