New collections catalogue reveals the history of Barnsley’s beautiful artwork
A brand new catalogue detailing the history of generous art collectors who gave their paintings and drawings to the Cooper Gallery, together with stunning examples of their collections, is now available to buy for the first time.
The publication showcases even more of the world class fine art that can be found in Barnsley and was created as part of The Heritage Lottery funded project, which has seen the Cooper Gallery double its public exhibition space.
The catalogue contains a foreword by Paul Elmhirst, Chair of the Trustees of the Cooper Gallery and fascinating information about Mr and Mrs Cooper, the Fox family, Sir Michael Sadler, Captain Addy and Malcolm Whittaker. All of whom have kindly donated their art collections to the Gallery so they can be freely accessible to all.
Some of the treasures that people can discover more about are works by Edward Wadsworth, JMW Turner, Prunella Clough, Charles Theodore Frere, Vanessa Bell, Diaz de la Pena, John Ruskin plus many more.
The catalogue costs £6.99 and can be purchased in the Gallery shop. Also available is a selection of beautiful gifts ideas including, crafts, jewellery, artwork, books and cards.
Cllr Roy Miller, Cabinet spokesperson for Place, said: “The transformation of the Cooper Gallery has been outstanding. The extra space not only allows more of its stunning collection to be displayed, but also offers visitors a variety of new interactives and activities. The catalogue, which has been developed as part of the project, offers fascinating details about the artwork in the collections and the generous individuals who donated them for future generations to enjoy.”
