Launch of the transformed Cooper Gallery

The Cooper Gallery and its Board of Trustees have announced the launch date of the new gallery which has been transformed thanks to National Lottery players and other supporters. The family event, which will take place on Saturday 11 June, will allow those visiting to be among the first to take a look around the transformed galleries and explore the recently constructed outdoor space.

Launch of the Barnsley Museums Heritage Trust

The launch of the Barnsley Museums and Heritage Trust will take place in the town’s award winning museum, Experience Barnsley, on Thursday 18 February. The Trust has been established as a fundraising body for Barnsley Museums. It will not have responsibility for operating the museums or managing staff . The main objective of the organisation is to raise money to support the wonderful venues, collections and the activities and programmes run by the service.

Barnsley will be serving up a smashing summer of ping pong

Ping! the nation’s favourite ping pong festival will be hitting the streets of Barnsley for five fun filled weeks, beginning Saturday, 11 June. Barnsley is one of five new locations chosen to host the spectacular event, along with major cities such as Manchester and Newcastle. In total 21 towns and cities around the UK will see the ping pong extravaganza arrive.

The transformation of the Cooper Gallery

Building works to transform the Cooper Gallery are nearing the final stages and behind the scenes the exciting new look interiors are moving ahead, thanks to a grant of £638,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund. The main structure has now been erected doubling the size of the existing Gallery space.

Celebrating the Dearne Valley’s forgotten industry

An exciting new exhibition combining history, community engagement and contemporary ceramics opens at the Cooper Gallery on Saturday, 30 January. The Dearne Valley Landscape Partnership (DVLP), funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, commissioned Yorkshire artist Adele Howitt to produce new work on the theme of the ‘Forgotten Potteries of the Dearne Valley’.

Unwrapping lots of fun at Barnsley Museums this Christmas

Barnsley Museums will be unwrapping a bursting package of family fun this Christmas. During the holiday season visitors will have a great time at Cannon Hall Museum, park and gardens, Worsbrough Mill, Experience Barnsley, Cooper Gallery and Elsecar Heritage, all operated by Barnsley Council.
